Mr. SptCA and I do business with different banks, and that turned out to be a big help in Denmark and Sweden - most ATM's we tried to use seemed to belong to only one network - so in some cities, his card worked and in others mine worked. We were quite glad we had 2 networks to choose from.

Another way we've found to get foreign currency in advance is to call BofA's customer service and request it to be sent to you as a withdrawl from your BofA account. Last time I did this, for amounts in excess of $1,000 they waived the FedEx fee, and their rate was highly competitive.
