Also note, KE also flies to Japan via Seoul. A caution for them is award space will book with roundtrip pricing. If only one-way is available, youd pay roundtrip award price for one way. Having both inbound and return available is a rarity unless you are ultra flexible. If you do find both segments, congrats.

Note that for KE you can do a half round trip and it will price at half the round trip cost. So you need to book a return on the same ticket but it can be in a different airline.

So for example you could book SFO-TYO on JL and TYO-ICN-SFO on KE on the same ticket and you will pay half the KE round trip price + the JL one way price.
