It won't do any harm if you or your SO stop flying or attempt to offset. On the other hand it won't make any difference whatsoever. Nor would stopping flying. There is a danger that the collective effect of ineffectual gestures is to prevent meaningful actions that have a chance of working, because "we've done our bit". It is also possible that essentially taking actions that put flying and associated holidays out of the reach of the lower paid (while finding a solution that trades cash for being allowed to do it yourself), and also raising the cost of simply keeping warm, will turn opinion against ANY meaningful action.

It is further unlikely that we can stop global warming, and it may well be better to focus attention on mitigating effects rather than trying to prevent them. Unless you think you can rein in India and China. Who would probably turn round and ask you why the rich West feels morally obliged to impoverish the rest of the world. China is doing quite well actually but has a large industrial base (many of our emissions happen there), but India has an exploding aviation sector and for every airline seat a middle class backside vacates in Europe or decides not to vacate but agonises about), many more are added there.
