Marriott Bonvoy 2FA / OTP - don't risk 4 day account lock!
I learned a hard lesson today after three different 20 minute phone calls (an hour of my time wasted) that if you have 2 Factor Authentication (2FA) set up on your Marriott Bonvoy account and change information on your account, they will lock your account for 4 days.
I have no idea what this accomplishes, but I will also say that the system doesn't warn you and the error message when you try to log in states the following "Contact Marriott Bonvoy. Your passcode cannot be sent since you recently changed the email address and phone number(s) associated with this account." The error message on the App says "Before you can update your profile, you'll need to verify your account with Customer Care." with a link to call Customer Care. When you call Bonvoy, they have no idea what you are talking about and try to tell you it's a browser issue or that you need to reset your password. I did this several times to appease them even though I kept telling them it was a server-side issue and I could see the OTP (one time password) was failing to send from the URL and message on screen.
It is clear that nobody at Bonvoy knows about this 4 day policy. I FINALLY got someone to open a tech support case for me and was told I would receive an email response in 2 hours. 14 hours later, I got a response telling me about the 4 day rule and that I was $hit out of luck.
I would advise everyone to TURN OFF 2FA on their Marriott accounts as being locked out of your account for a week while traveling is terrible experience.
