I think that is YEARS away, and TK can't really fly direct into Australia. They're talking about flights via SIN, which makes their offering far less attractive. There is heavy competition Australia - SIN - Europe; and if you have to add a connection in IST then it's an unattractive option. Unless there is huge demand between Australia and IST...

Indeed, Finnair crews.

BA is British, and Australia has an affinity for anything British. Of course, Qantas, the true ruler of Australia, may still prevent that.
For BA, the logistics are more difficult, having to have crews in DOH, but if AU routes haven't been profitable for them in the past, it doesn't mean they wouldn't be today. Australia seems to be an attractive market for many airlines. There's a reason QR wants more flights to Australia.
Re Australians having an affinity for anything British, I'm kind of intrigued that's still the case, especially where BA is concerned! But probably OT. I read that the flights to Aus tie up 3 aircraft in 24h for BA whereas just one can do a return to most US cities where the competition is not of as high a standard and yields probably higher. I would love BA to add flights to Aus though - not because I would choose them - but because it would bring down the price of QR, SQ and QF
