DP re Carryon Baggage Enforcement

YYZ-MBJ - Aug 14 - full flight - didn't see anyone forced to check their carryon and no one subject to metal sizer
MBJ-YYZ - Aug 21 - unlucky folks checking in with agent beside us were told that their carry-ons were too big and that they had to do a complimentary check-in. Agent stated the carry-ons as a fact by eyeballing and did not ask the folks to place the carry-ons in the metal sizer. The folks pleaded that they had the exact same carry-ons in the cabin on the YYZ-MBJ segment, but the agent did not budge. Those folks were coincidentally sitting beside us from YYZ-MBJ and I know for a fact that they had these same carryon's. The folks didn't want to argue any further and checked-in (complimentary) their carry-ons

The carry-ons that these folks were forced to check-in were the same size as our carry-on's, yet our agent didn't fuss. During our flight, we were mutually venting with these folks that its frustrating and stressful to have arbitrary and inconsistent application of the baggage enforcement. Either apply the baggage enforcement to everyone or to no one. Stop with this random enforcement.

Exercise caution and expect the worst with baggage enforcement is the moral of the story OR if you're sure your baggage is within the approved carryon specs, insist to have the metal size or some measurements taken.

I hope this helps the FT community, including Davvidd , who I know has a looming concern about carry-on baggage enforcement.

Flying YYZ-YVR-YYC-YYZ in October and will report back with baggage enforcement after that trip.
