Got it. AA only flies nonstop to LaGuardia from Detroit.

For JFK, JetBlue also flies nonstop, and there is a midday flight which gets in around 230pm. That might alleviate the need for Delta lounge stop to wait for BA desks open, and you'd still have the mid-afternoon Delta flight (early evening arrival) as backup.
