Lots of conflicting information on this one. The airframe allocated at time of cancellation was G-EUYW. It operated LHR-VCE-LHR as BA 578/579 prior to the BA 986/987 BER rotation. This was the 7th airframe allocated to BA986/987 and the 4th with in 18 hours of planned departure.
The official cancellation code is DAMN which suggests light light strike damage on the heavily slot delayed BA 579 VCE-LHR. Given it landed at 1636 vs 1405 scheduled, and the BA 986 LHR-BER has a standard departure time of 1610, once can link the dots. A late running airframe with lightning damage (suspected give them info available) is an easy chop to keep the rest of the plan going. At present G-EUYW isn’t due to fly until the 27th.
