Long version:
I have the following itinerary booked separately: TPE-HKG-DOH-CDG
My self-connected layover is 2h55m at HKG and 3h50m at Doha.
TPE-HKG is operated by Cathay Pacific
HKG-DOH and DOH-CDG are operated by Qatar Airways
While I have confirmed with Cathay Pacific that they can through check my bag all the way to CDG, is this what I should be doing? Should I collect my checked bag at HKG and hand them to QR at HKG?
I believe I should be able to enter Qatar, I would like to stay on the airside at DOH if possible. Will I be able to get my DOH-CDG boarding pass when I am at HKG?
If CX can tag your bag all the way to CDG, then of course you'll stay airside at both connection points. Chances are you'll get your boarding passes all the way to CDG as well, but this isn't guaranteed. If you don't, just swing by the airside transfer desk at HKG/DOH to get them printed.
Staying airside is ideal, especially since you have less than 3 hours between separate tickets at HKG. Otherwise, you'd have to clear arrival formalities, collect your bag, and head upstairs to check in with QR. While HKG is quite efficient, keep in mind QR counters close 1 hour before departure, so you really wouldn't have much room for error.
