I suppose it remains possible that something has changed but it's nothing to do with the CAA; I haven't asked BA as I fear that asking them will result in the (much appreciated by me) current policy being reviewed but I'm happy to if the issue continues.
Have you contacted the CAA or has this come from its website?

I asked the supervisor at MAN this week (after a gate announcement that “we now require photo identification when boarding”) and she said this was a CAA directive that begins 1 September. She said they have started implementing this policy now ‘to get people used to it’.

This is consistent with what KARFA was told at NCL. I suppose this could be airport specific, time will tell.
