It was funny, that trip to Kona resort we stayed in the Kauai Sheraton and the Grand Wailea and when I asked the kids their favorite hotel, they said the Kona resort. !?! The reason was that it was quite spacious, I guess they appreciated the feeling of almost like home.

Kona resort itself was fine - not particularly close to beaches (you have to drive) - but the big island is pretty spread out anyway. We found it a decent base to explore the island.

That said, we returned to Kauai a couple years later and stayed right near Bali Hai - I really liked Princeville. Between Bali Hai and Kona, i think Bali Hai seems like a better area. We actually stayed in a Vacasa property that was spectacular. Here it is - same amount of points as a Wyndham, booking was over the phone but pretty fast: https://www.vacasa.com/unit/71167. I found the Wyndham properties perfectly fine and yes, bookable online. But that Vacasa was one where we kept pinching ourselves that it was real. But do note that every Vacasa is different, you have to read very carefully to make sure it’s what you want. Also, I did have to pay $10 parking fee at the Vacasa, but I was happy to pay it, esp since it included bike rental (which was a huge points winner for my youngest).
