Had a nice chat with the Guest Experiences manager and she mentioned that the design team doing the renovation was heavily leaning towards eliminating the longer hallway scheme in favor of a grand lobby space. A bit sad since I was a fan of the transitions between spaces, but understandable.
That should be interesting to watch, as the hallway design is a result of the building floorplan. The Tokyo Park Tower (also known as the Tokyo Gas Building) is really three buildings next to each other in a zigzag pattern. I guess they could knock down the Girandole far wall and open up the space to the last hallway on the way to the check-in desk. But I think that would ruin things.
The hallway between the elevator foyer/Peak Bar and the Girandole cannot really be modified, I recall there are windows looking out on both sides.
