Before having BAEC status, some person (who is definitely not me), paid for seat selection before the flight(s), then immediately filled out the BA Seat Refund Form selecting "I wish to cancel my seat within 24 hours of purchase". Refund takes a fair time, and the seats where never actually removed from the booking (thanks BA IT!).
