Could be an internal DL flag indicating a DYKWIA troublemaker. Just joking. My guess could possibly be the primary passenger who is traveling with a +1 companion is bolded in case there is only one upgrade seat available and the bolded person has to decide to either split up or allow the next person on the list to have the upgrade.
