​​​​​​What is considered fair fares? Who set these fares? If AA (or any other airline) is charging more, why are people still buying more of those fares, as opposed to the competition, presumably has cheaper fares? All rhetorical questions - at the end of day, people are free to choose what works best for them. This is the current operated market.

Btw, your McD analogy is not the same as what you are describing about airfares in relation to skipping a segment.
