UA Landside Service Counters at MUC - do agents know what they're doing?

I'm booked to fly UA in E+ from MUC on Thursday. I've actually seen a few better connections available with planes fairly empty in economy and business, but for some reason PremiumPlus is almost full. What I'd like to try to do is SDC to one of those flights into whatever will let me buy up Polaris if the price is reasonable. Are United counters at MUC staffed with people who will understand what I'm trying to do, and be able to work it out in their systems?

Will I have better luck if I call in? I'm afraid if I call in and an agent messes something up, I might be stuck; if I'm at the airport early, at least I'm right there to immediately consume the results.

Thanks for any information and words of wisdom!
