I would suggest going b4 the CNY and perhaps stay until the 2nd or 3rd day of it (ie 10th & 11th).

By going b4 CNY, you can do all the shopping and eating (without worrying which shop/restaurant will be closed during CNY) as well as visiting the 'flower market' (but be warn.....it'll be extremely crowded esp on the last day of its opening)

the fire works over Victoria Habour on the 2nd nite of CNY will be a highlight of this festival and you can get the best of it by joining the locals at the waterfronts of TST, again, be warn of the crowd but the sight, the noise and the atmosphere are just surreal!~
