They also claimed I can call NY E-ZPass to have them override the registration to another account (i.e. they will remove the plate from the other account and put it on mine) because another renter likely registered it, but I still think it is Hertz/PlatePass who's registering these vehicles and that E-ZPass might not be able to override that.
This is interesting. I rented from Hertz and drove to Kansas from Missouri. I tried to pay the toll online without resolution. I contacted the Kansas toll people and was told the license plate is registered to an account. I wonder if the license plate is registered to Hertz or to another indivdiual. How on earth would another individual recover the tolls if the other individual didn't unregister the license plate?
