The problem with Google Flight type comparison sites is that you have to actually go to a site from where you can make the booking. Google Flights often shows totally BS fares which are not found when you go to the airline website. So I stopped bothering now. I either use an OTA or the airline website.
I have found cheaper fares on Google Flights that did not show up when search on UA. However, I was able to purchase at the fares published by google flights on UA website when I use the "Continue" button on Google Flights. I have done this multiple times. Granted.. My itineraries are simple domestic RT. Might not work on complicated international itineraries.
