Even in the US, I rarely use cash. The budget Chinese restaurants seem to be cash-only though. I get your point and I was I should have a little bit of Euros with me.

Hopefully, I won't have to buy a prepaid SIM. Most of my data usage will be at the hotel so 5GB should be plenty for messaging, web browsing, and Apple/Google Maps.
FCO to Rome is going to be by train - either a regional or the leonardo express, both of which you'd need to buy a ticket for in advance - I don't think you can buy them on the train itself. As for getting around the city on bus/metro, yeah they do sell weekly passes, as well as 24/48/72 hour passes. That information is here: https://www.metropolitanadiroma.it/b...a-di-roma.html and it's up to you whether you'll ride enough to make it worth it over tapping in for 1.50 euro each time (transfers are included there within a 100 minute window).

I never use cash in the US either. But I always carry some cash in Italy. You don't need to bring it in advance - I just go to the ATM at the airport and withdraw some when we land (mind you, my bank refunds ATM fees).

You almost certainly will not need a prepaid SIM. For that usage 5 gigs will last you. I think they throttle you past 5 gigs, not shut you off, but we didn't run into that and some folks in the group were heavy data users.
