It's a good and valid point. But I guess I will still argue that I didn't sign or initial anything at the pickup (but I should have checked the rental agreement before leaving).

I arrived at the rental location, handed my driver's license and credit card, and the agent gave those back to me and asked to wait for the car. After about 40 minutes, they finally got one available and simply handed me the rental agreement. I should have checked at that point, but I was getting close to the next appointment so I left pretty quickly.
