I'm Finnair Silver, do my 30 segments a year (status was just confirmed till August 2024).
I only need Silver for baggage basically - to keep flying with my usual 2 cabin bags while getting the cheapest ticket (and occasionally buying check-in baggage 50% cheaper under the new rules - as I rarely check in anything, used to be a good way to help someone I fly with save on baggage - everyone could get the cheapest possible ticket and I would just check the bag for free with my Silver).
I have 120K points, however..Is there any reason for me to worry about the Avios thing, send those points somewhere, do the BAEC thing?
Start booking things differently or with another airline card, as my new status period just started and I don't have any segments yet with Finnair in the current year?
Or doesn't it simply matter for someone with my profile?
Welcome to Flyertalk!

Not enough is known to give a sound advice. The only ones who knows, Finniar, has not published any of the important details. They are remodelling everything - earn & burn for award points and all tier levels and the earning of tier points.

It is like your mechanic telling you: "I will change your engine and your gearbox but I won't tell you horsepower or gear ratios. But I will tell you your fuel tank is reduced by 33%. "

There is simply no way to know how far this remodelled car can go.

With that said, the change will likely affect everyone, regardless of current status, spend, flight patterns, goals and so on. The best thing to do is getting prepared. Analyze your flightpatterns and include historic base fare spend. Research flight and airline options. Research loyalty programs. Re-evaluate your goals.

But taking action immediately is premature for almost everyone.
Because you entered a new membership year and have not made an investment in Finnair flights yet, it could be the time to change over if you have alternatives that fits your goals. Or, if you see you could do your 30 segments before the floating deadline of "early 2024" you could expedite that and hope silver is going to be honored and the perks of the new program is going to be the same or better.
And if you can do 30 segments in a short time, then you can just sit and wait out Finniar to actually come clean on the requirements and perks of the new program and if they fail to deliver, then you can either choose to do 30 segments before the cut-of date or move to another airline/program at that time.

As for what to do 120k Finnair points: If you have (or get) a BAEC account and you see better redemtion offers on BAEC than on Finnair, then the advice is to wait for progam change and then transfer everythin to BAEC and quickly spend it. If not, then it is anyone's guess. There is no telling how valuable the Finnair avios will be inside the Finnair program or how hard it will be to redeem.
