As an alternative, this would nearly get you 50K miles and 30K elite-qualifying miles on Alaska Mileage Plan, but you'd need another 10K EQM plus 6 AS segments to reach OW Sapphire (equivalent to BA Silver).

I'd say it all depends on your normal travel patterns, if you don't fly AS (and AA) this is not something I would recommend, but then there isn't much point in getting OW status anyway.

Someone else can likely chime in on BA Avios earnings, haven't been an active BAEC member for a long time. AS has better redemption values usually, at least for premium cabins.
