In general, it is just better to arrive in Heathrow early if you have a connection flight. In case of any cancellations and delays, there are just more options if you arrive early. However if London is your final destination, the evening flight will work better with jet lag. The 787 cabin is definitely nicer than the 14F 772 cabin.

Exactly this. I'm on the early flight out in just over a month, then connecting onto Rome. I've never really had issues with jetlag, but it seems a lot do. I've always set my watch to destination time the second I board the plane and immediately start thinking completely in that time zone. Has always worked like a charm for me, especially on my copious flights to/from Australia. Mind is a powerful thing.
