I’m flying to Chiangmai this fall on 2 separate tickets. I’ll be flying to LAX on Southwest Airlines, then on to Thailand on China Airlines. I’d like to bring 5 golf clubs as one of my 2 checked luggage allowances. Does China Airlines charge extra if the dimensions of the golf bag is greater than 62 inches? My inclination is to put the 5 clubs in bubble wrap, put them in the golf bag, surrounding them with clothes, and plastic wrap the bag. It’s a relatively small bag, so the dimensions shouldn’t be more than 62 inches. If I’m certain that the dimensions can be greater than 62 inches, I’d also use my golf bag travel case. However, I’m assuming that putting clothes in with the clubs could invalidate it as a strictly golf bag. Id prefer to be checking in at LAX and not having to pay $200 extra for an oversized golf bag inside of a carrying case.
