From there, we plan on taking Trenitalia HS train to Siena with a stop through Florence. I'm thinking it may be wise to book in advance (correct me if this is not necessary or a good idea) because same/next-day tickets appear expensive. The options are 9:10am, 10:10am, 10:35am. 12:10am departures. Any guidance on what we should do based on timing to get through the airport and to Termini is much appreciated - thanks in advance!
Yes, book ahead as far as possible, you will save, we booked 1 month out and the savings were big.
You can book your whole ticket from
Fiumicino Airport to your destination on the Trenitalia site - the Leonardo express tickets are not time dependent, you can jump on any of those trains.
The transit from the plane can be a crap shoot, you never know what your going to get. I always expect the worse however on our last flight, we landed, claimed bags, cleared passport control and made it to the train station in just over an hour.
