I used it in April, mostly to get the credit. I used a regional hotel chain that does have a points program, but I don’t stay at them much, everything worked fine. I wouldn’t use them for the big chain hotels myself, and I definitely wouldn’t use them for a critical booking where I would be disappointed if I had to change hotels, or where I thought crowds might make it impossible to find an alternate hotel. I follow and use the rewards programs for major chain hotels, though I know not everyone does that, and earning a good rate of C1 points might be really attractive instead. I am probably too conservative.
