I know it is industry standard in some continents, but not others. I would not call something "industry standard" just because it is the standard in North America and common in Europe. That's too biased. As you said, this is not the standard in Asia. If it is not the standard in the most populous continent in the world, it should not be called "industry standard." Maybe it is Western standard.
