Sounds like it looks FRA - SYD direct options only and doesn't "get" that you are trying to force a connection in TYO (HND, NRT) on NH only. Or there is a MPM (maximum permitted mileage) restriction implemented in the back end that is not shown with a sensible error message. You can try to check how many distance miles say FRA-BKK-SYD or FRA-SIN-SYD or so is versus FRA-HND-SYD (can use great circle mapper from Star Alliance) and if the distance exceeds by a certain percentage (depends on airline, could be 15% or 25% or 30% or so) then this itinerary won't be permitted. YMMV.
