Despite the claims in the other thread by a few drama queens that Kahekili was the "most stressful few hours" they've spent behind the wheel of a car, it's not that bad. I've driven it multiple times, both ways. But yeah, it obviously can't take heavy two way traffic due to the narrow, half duplex sections, but in light traffic, it's not too hard to drive. And it's way better than the Pi‘ilani Highway between Kaupō and Kīpahulu and I've driven that one multiple times in both directions too, mostly with 2WD sedans, and it was still easily passable, so even that road isn't that bad either. Find a road that a 4WD Wrangler has trouble on in 4LO and that's a bad road, not all these state highways that are literally passable in giant 2 axle tour buses that some drama queens claim are bad roads.
State government proclamation as well as Hawaiian Electric outage updates suggest Kaanapali hotels/resorts will be used to housed displaced. Don't know which ones/how many rooms of course. Guessing months for whoever ends up there.
Driving Kahekili Highway was a peace of cake if you observe speed limits. Actually pretty calm and relaxing when compared to trying to switch thru 4 lines of traffic at NYC Times Square during rush hour while avoiding vehicles/bicyclist/pedestrians.
In any case, whoever have plans for Maui should look at parts of the island other than West Maui until there is more clarity on the housing the displaced situation in
Kaanapali/Napili.
