On a JQ MEL-SYD ticket, JQ is only responsible for getting your luggage to SYD.
If, for whatever reason, the bag got delayed or went missing you would fill out a missing bag declaration and on this you could ask for them to forward the bag to your temporary address in BKK. Whether and if this would ever actually happen - or whether they would just return your bag to your home address in Australia long after you have returned from BKK - is another matter.
