So, having gotten yourself into that situation, why throw UA a lifeline? You've needlessly complicated your UK.261 claim. UA might still pay it, but you've definitely given them an out, particularly if ORD-TYS was delayed and you would have made it.
Why wouldn't a traveler book a flight that has a connection
30 minutes longer than the airline's minimum? Heck, there was a post by GUWonder recently where he/she claimed a grand total of 20 minutes (I think) to get from an arriving INTL aircraft to his/her gate at T3.
