At least with Trip.com and Ctrip.com, they have unique policies that often seem lacking common sense. This July, I had to deal with their customer support after realizing that my new identity card (身份证) wouldn't arrive before the departure date, and my old one had expired for my upcoming Guangzhou to Tianfu flight. When I phoned them, they explained their policy of allowing only one amendment to passenger details, whether that pertains to the ID type and number or the name. Switching from a Chinese Issued Identity Card to a Chinese Citizen Passport is a no-go. According to them, the name on the identity card is in Chinese, while the passport uses English in Pinyin. Ctrip claims they're not the same, even though the Chinese name on the passport's bio page matches the one on the identity card, and both have the same birthdate. It was only after I mentioned that this goes against the spirit of consumer laws, and threatened to contact the consumer association and the relevant department of CAAC, that they sought permission from MU to change my passenger info from the Identity card to the passport. As this request technically violated their "one change" policy. A Ctrip staff member contacted me an hour later to confirm the successful change as an exemption. Due to such an instance of a lack of common sense on their part, I will NEVER book a ticket through them again if I can obtain it directly from the airline. Had I booked through MU, this could've been resolved with a single phone call.

Furthermore, selecting a seat or even linking my ticket to my MU frequent flyer account, after it was issued by Ctrip, proved to be a challenge. The MU app would notify me with a "ticket not found" error. Thankfully, the flight in the forward cabin on the A332 had only 18 out of 30 seats occupied, and my early check-in ensured I had no neighbors during the flight. I had to manually enter my details after my ticket details into the MU app to receive frequent flyer credits.
Dont you just present your travel document when you check in for the flight and the airline would check if the name match?
