The walkway between TBIT and T3 might be complete by October. Re-check before your flight.
If you are in J or F on JFK-LAX best option in your layover is the flagship lounge.
BTW - The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner between San Diego and LA is very scenic but not time competitive connecting to LAX vs flight. Could be a backup option if your connection is late, I guess.
