Involuntary denied boarding on EW BRE-STR flight as M&M FTL
Hi Folks,
I had the unfortunate experience of being bumped off a EW flight last night (despite being checked in and having a seat assigned) despite being FTL, and having my M&M number associated with the reservation. I'm pursuing EW for my 250 EUR involuntary denied boarding compensation (as well as the 400 EUR taxi ride from HAM to BRE since they didn't have another flight available until Monday morning). This is all unfortunate, but at least I've got insurance to handle the inevitable small claims filing when EW invariably tries to weasel out of their obligations.
My bigger concern is that I was under the understanding that program status provided pretty close to full immunity from being bumped. Is this not true with LH and company? Is this something that I should bring up with Miles and More, with Lufthansa, or with EuroWings? They had to bump 15 out of a flight of 180, and my sequence number was well under half of the full plane size. I paid the "Smart" fare, so it wasn't like I was the cheapest ticket on there. I'm just really peeved.
As an aside, does getting automatically chosen to get denied boarding count as an "automated decision process" under GDPR article 21? The gate agent stated repeatedly that it was an automated process.
