I travel a lot with my wife and have noticed this, but it's certainly not unique to BA. I experienced it similarly on JAL (quite a macho culture in Japan for sure) where they assume I'm the status holder. Wife has had silver for a few years. My mother gets it in different places too. Both her and my dad are Dr. and he gets referred to as Dr. [Name] and then she gets called "Dear".
