The cost of the taxes and fees rarely exceeds what you'd pay on a cash booking. For a LHR departure you're looking at £13 in APD (twice that in CE), plus £30 odd in Heathrow airport fees. Whereas the starting point of RFS taxes and fees is 50p, or more realistically for the better value options, between £10-25.
