So it worked out OK - I was mostly curious as to whether others had heard of the "- they couldn't leave the gate in LA until they booked hotels in Philadelphia for airline staff" as this was a new experience for us.
Never heard of that personally however it makes sense that they wouldnt depart on the last flight of the night (for the crew) if they didn't have a confirmed place to stay upon arrival.
Also wouldn't be surprised if it happens more often than we know however that level of detail just isn't typically shared with pax.
