I have flown Alaska/Mokulele going from LAX to Hilo via Maui. Unfortunately Mokulele no longer flies to Hilo at all, so it's one less opportunity to utilize the interisland connection benefits of Mokulele. From personal experience, Mokulele frequently cancels flights at the last minute, and there is nobody available at their reservation line for reaccomodation when a flight gets cancelled. I had a lot of problems getting reaccomodated on my last Mokulele cancellation. The idea of flight connections on interisland flights is a good one, but I don't think Mokulele has the infrastructure to keep things operating reliably. If you want to go to Molokai or Lanai, Mokulele is the only option.

Also Alaska is cutting LAX-Maui flights to Saturday only service starting this winter reducing connection opportunities even more.
