Based on what the first officer was telling the captain, I almost wonder if the captain had a momentary "brain fog" or otherwise was not realizing what was going on at a very critical point in the flight!

It's one thing if I go to another room and when I get there, I forgot why I went to the other room. It's another thing for the flight crew (here, the captain), to have this brain fog.
