In my watching the thread we seem somewhat as a group divided between those who are fine with the hotels business behavior of pay to upgrade and those who aren't.
Suppose I fall more on your way of thinking however I do like Andaz 5 and find myself extremely happy with the wellness suite.
Understood its not everyone's style or idea of comfort and luxury.
Andaz 5 seems to genuinely care about upgrading Globes where possible and has a committed seasoned
GM that understands members expectations
Count me in the camp of "HATE Park Hyatt NYC" and "LOVE Andaz 5th Avenue", as has been stated many times in my posts on various threads.
I have begrudgingly accepted that for NYC, that's it! If I want to experience true Park Hyatt luxury, I have to head to Paris (in November), Bangkok (in December), and similar locales.
