I thought the same when I read this news. I am sure department stores and other inbound tourist related businesses are waiting for this. But same time international arrival formalities will get worse. I also read that regional airports (airports outside of Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo) are getting charter flights back from East Asian countries. Tourist related businesses are seeing the trend of inbound tourists seeking destinations in Japan that are not Tokyo, Osaka, or Kyoto started pre-pandemic are continuing post-pandemic. I am guessing this trend is one of the reasons we are seeing Hilton and Marriott opening hotels outside of Tokyo and Osaka.
