Not quite the same as OP, but recently had a check-in agent try to hawk a DL AMEX card to me when checking bags to waive the bag fees. I have a different card setup that provides better value to me, so I declined. She kept pushing the card benefits. I was a bit surprised because I was under the impression Delta wasn’t in the game of credit card hawking like some of their competitors.
They're both consistent approaches: no "general hawking" like on flights but instead target hawking of those Delta knows don't have cards and perceive as an opportunity to acquire a new customer. My take - more likely to be successful but also more likely to piss people off because it is more invasive because it is a more "intimate" dialogue.
