Currently Gold Elite member (through Amex Platinum) and I do enjoy staying at Marriott's but have been swayed towards Hilton recently as I have the Aspire card.
They made the changes to the card last summer before my trip to Barcelona. The refresh by itself was worth a couple hundred dollars to me on that trip due to breakfast at Marriott hotels and a better upgrade at one of the properties.
