Just opining a little bit... I've seen similarly seemingly bad-for-business decisions in various industries in the past, and almost always they were extraordinary measures designed to get short-term revenues up to make the company look like a profitable target for takeovers. I wonder if, post Sprit merger, F9 is looking to make themselves attractive to a buyer?
I take a flight which departs around 6a. Boarding stops 15 minutes before departure. Door is closed. We're generally airborne before the scheduled departure time. Later in the day delays accumulate.

Many pax have bags which are very oversized. Some of the posted videos are bogus. The pax removes stuff prior to shooting the video. Some pax accurately show a bag which fits. They forget to combine other items in their personal item. Your bag fits but they'll not showing pocket book, briefcase or laptop bag..

I frequently see fares under $10, plus government fees, if you buy the ticket in the airport. The pricing model is very low fare. It takes advantage of pax who don't research. 40lb max. NY to FL can cost $70.
