It has been years since I rented a car in North America, so I'm not very familiar with which cars are decent to drive. In Europe I usually get anything German, even when booking a basic car (at worst something like a VW T-Cross, but more often something like a BMW 1-series/X1, Mercedes A-Class, etc). These are all decent to drive, but beyond some mentions of some X1s in this thread I don't see many cars I'm familiar with.
We're going on a week-long road trip through Banff and Jasper, so figure that perhaps a small SUV or crossover would be OK if available, but I'm sure any car would do. We don't travel with much luggage. As a clueless European I would have thought Jeeps were supposed to be good, but I've seen comments here on FT stating the opposite. Any advice on what to pick given what's likely to be available (we'll have access to ES)?
