There seems to be a misunderstanding here that passenger convenience should be taken into account but surely by now we all know that that isn't anywhere on the list of what matters to BA? This is all done for the convenience of BA and to minimise costs.
There is a big difference between passenger conveniance and the conveniance to a specific single passenger. If the flight the OP was on used an 'A' gate, then other passengers would have been inconvenianced by being sent to a 'C' gate
