You're not crazy. If you have the time, go for it.

The easiest way to do it would be to go to Asia-- EWR-HKG is about 8k each way. Technically travel to TPE allows routing via HKG to GUM to TPE, but I have had no luck pricing on co.com. I couldn't even price EWR-GUM via IAH.
