On the other hand LO's systems remember my seat preferences and always assign rows 4-7 in accordance (depending on BC cabin config).
Is there any good way to get a preferred seating w/o feeding "high-cost" airline with additional reve (having 8 year's FTL status with them)?
FTL status with LH group airlines is basically the same as no status at all. Apart from C class check in and lounge access, where possible, you are in the same category of pax as those without FTL. There are still some bugs in LH/OS/LX/SN/EW IT that would allow sporadic change of seats for free, but overall, light fare means no free change of seats online regardless of a pax status. I was able to get better seats at check in though but I suspect that this is largely due to my HON status. I imagine that FTL will be at the bottom of a food chain.
