This misunderstands the point. It is not that people spend £3000 for the purpose of being able to do that. They spend £3000 in order to be transported from A to B with a certain degree of comfort. In that process, as a side advantage, they enjoy being able to try alcoholic drinks they would not normally do. But the latter is not the cause, explanation or rationale for spending £3000.
To take another example, I enjoy watching films on the inflight entertainment system that I would in all likelihood not go the cinema for (or stream) on the ground. That does not mean that the purpose of my buying a plane ticket is to see those films. However, I still derive pleasure from watching them and making some unexpected discoveries in the process and I would be disappointed if airlines were to remove their inflight entertainment systems.
